  • Berberian Sound Studio (Limited Edition Slipcover Blu-ray) - IFC Films

Peter Strickland‘s 2012 sophomore feature Berberian Sound Studio is as stylish, eclectic and atmospheric as his later features like In Fabric and Flux Gourmet. Set in the 1970s, British sound engineer named Gilderoy (Toby Jones) arrives in Rome to work on the post-synchronized soundtrack to The Equestrian Vortex, a tale of witchcraft and murder set inside an all-girl riding academy. But as Gilderoy begins to work on this unexpectedly terrifying project, it’s his own mind that holds the real horrors. As the line between film and reality blurs, is Gilderoy working on a film – or in one? IFC Films' new release of the psychological horror-thriller comes with archive commentary from Strickland, a new audio commentary with film historian Kim Newman and writer and filmmaker Sean Hogan, the Berberian Sound Studio original short film, deleted scenes and more.

  • Creepy (Limited Edition Slipcover Blu-ray) - KimStim Films

Creepy is something of a lesser-seen work from Japanese horror master Kiyoshi Kurosawa (Cure, Pulse), but definitely deserves your time just as much as any other entries in his vast oeuvre. The psychological thriller very much lives up to its name, starring Hidetoshi Nishijima as an ex-cop who has suspicions about his new, bizarre neighbor, played by Teruyuki Kagawa. As with any Kurosawa pic, expect a skin-crawling slowburn that will have you checking the darker corners of your home. KimStim's release comes with new writing and audio commentary, plus effectively creepy new artwork from Chris Barnes.

The Malaysian pic, selected as the country's entry for Best International Feature Film at the 2020 Oscars, follows a family living in the remote depths of a Dengkil forest, who are visited by a strange little girl and her frightening prediction. Neil Marshall's claustrophobic cave horror The Descent celebrates its 20th anniversary this year, and so Lionsgate Limited is giving the film the 4K UHD release it deserves (finally!) Released in 2005, The Descent stars Shauna Macdonald, Natalie Mendoza, Alex Reid, Saskia Mulder, Nora-Jane Noone and MyAnna Buring as a group of daredevil women who go caving in the isolated Appalachian mountains, only to find themselves prey to a clan of humanoid, hungry monsters. Marshall has recently teased a prequel that could “wrap up the story” by focussing on a group of miners who first found themselves trapped in the cave many years prior to the events of The Descent. Lionsgate Limited's release comes with archive features including commentaries, interviews, deleted scenes and more, plus a new featurette looking at the film's legacy twenty years later.
