Deathstalker, Steven Kostanski's (Frankie Freako, PG: Psycho Goreman) reboot of the Roger Corman-produced 1983 sword-and-sorcery cult classic, gets an official trailer today ahead of its Fantastic Fest North American premiere and October 10 theatrical release via Shout! Studios.
Executive produced by guitar legend Slash (Guns N'Roses), Deathstalker stars Daniel Bernhardt (John Wick, The Matrix Reloaded) as the titular Deathstalker with Patton Oswalt (Young Adult, Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire) providing the voice of the benevolent wizard Doodad. The action-fantasy adventure takes place in the Kingdom of Abraxeon, under siege by the Dreadites, heralds of the long-dead sorcerer Nekromemnon:
When Deathstalker recovers a cursed amulet from a corpse-strewn battlefield, he's marked by dark magick and hunted by monstrous assassins. To survive, he must break the curse and face the rising evil. Death is just the beginning… of great adventure!
Slash and composer Bear McCreary also provide an original song for Deathstalker, with a score by Blitz/Berlin.
Previously, it was reported that the Deathstalker reboot will be as gloriously practical as James Sbardellati's original film, with Kostanski's own Action Pants FX shop delivering “a fanged harpy faced drone to a two-headed troll, a stone robot, man-eating snakes and a PigMan”, plus creature suits, prosthetics and stop-motion animation.
Today's new trailer certainly makes good on the promise of a practical action showdown, teasing blood, guts and swords galore. Check it out below:
