Actual-play podcast fans, this one’s for you. Ain’t Slayed Nobody and Rusty Quill just announced their latest actual-play venture, Push the Roll with Ross Bryant, a new improv podcast set in the world of the popular role-playing game Call of Cthulhu, of which two introductory episodes are available now.

Headlined by Dropout TV alum Ross Bryant, Push the Roll aims to blend horror comedy with improv as it pits players against the Lovecraftian imaginings of Call of Cthulhu. Each episode begins with a twist inspired by its audience — supporters who back the show on Patreon can submit episode titles, and players roll their dice to randomly choose one as a starting point. Halfway through, another is chosen, upending the episode’s plot in real time.

The show will feature a rotating cast of tabletop gaming favorites and improv comedians across the season, including Brennan Lee Mulligan, Ashly Burch, Becca Scott, Matthew Lillard, Colton Dunn, Abubakar Salim, Josephine McAdam, Ify Nwadiwe, Mark Meer, Rekha Shankar, Vic Michaelis, and more. Two introductory episodes introducing the show and its rules are available now on all major podcast platforms, and gameplay episodes begin airing on September 10.

“In Push The Roll our fans get to spark the premise, and we discover the story together at the table,” says player and show producer Corbin Cupp. “It’s playful, it’s tense, and really celebrates what we love about Call of Cthulhu games.”

While Push the Roll is intended for both seasoned tabletop players and newbies alike, Call of Cthulhu is one of the biggest RPg games in the world. First introduced in 1981, the game based on H.P. Lovecraft’s story of the same name upends the traditional D&D format with horror elements, featuring versions with settings that range from Ancient Rome to the 1920s.
