It's been a while since we heard anything about OD, the new horror game from Metal Gear Solid and Death Stranding maestro Hideo Kojima, but today finally brings a new teaser that's just as creepy as you'd expect from the man who also bought us P.T.
Plot details for Xbox Game Studios' mysterious title (which Kojima has previously described as “a game and at the same time a movie and at the same time a new form of media”) remain scarce, but we do know that it stars Sophia Lillis (It, Gretel and Hansel), Hunter Schafer (Cuckoo) and Udo Kier (Blood for Dracula, Shadow of the Vampire). Lillis can be seen in today's new teaser opening an ominous red door, lighting terrifying baby-shaped candles, and eventually being captured by an unseen monstrous being. Redacted text onscreen also tells us that the game takes place ten years after an unnamed event involving rituals and cursed somethings.
Speaking from today's Kojima Productions: Beyond the Strand livestream, Kojima stressed that today's teaser showcases a game, or perhaps chapter of a game, subtitled OD – Knock, which is different from the previously-announced OD game that Kojima is developing alongside Get Out and Nope director Jordan Peele.
Expanding on Peele's involvement, plus the ‘knock' aspect that can be heard throughout today's new teaser, Kojima confirmed:
“There is a different kind of fear Jordan [Peele] will do. Mine is the ‘knock', is the fear […] I really am afraid of big knock sounds.”
While that doesn't exactly explain how and when Peele's part of the game will come to light, Kojima did stress that OD is “really scary, and you'll probably do in your pants”. And we're inclined to believe him!
OD will be Kojima's first straight up horror project since the tragically-cancelled Silent Hills (and the aforementioned horrifying ‘playable trailer' known as P.T.), which would've seen him team up with Guillermo del Toro, Norman Reedus and legendary manga artist Junji Ito. While Silent Hills never came to fruition, today's OD – Knock teaser does give something of a P.T. vibe.
