Prior to Konami and Bloober Team's Silent Hill 2 remake, it's safe to say that Silent Hill was stuck in a rut after years of poorly received console games. Needless to say, the pressure was on for Silent Hill f, the latest in the mainline series, to retain the psychological horror franchise to its former glory.

Thankfully, it looks like that may be the case, as according to Konami's official Japanese Twitter page (seen below) and a statement, Silent Hill f sold over one million copies (physical and digital) in just a single day following its September 25 release.

From Taiwanese company NeoBards Entertainment, with a story by writer Ryukishi07 (Higurashi:When They Cry) and artist Kera (Spirit Hunter NG) handling creature and character design, Silent Hill f is set in 1960s Japan, making it the second Silent Hill title to leave the eponymous foggy American town. Players take on the role of a young girl named Hinako Shimizu, whose town of Ebisugaoka is suddenly shrouded in fog and begins to change in a horrific way.

Critic reviews for Silent Hill f  have been overall positive, with many gamers praising a return to form, with our own review calling it “the comeback the series needed“. Most gripes seem to lie with the combat which, if you're a Silent Hill fan, you'll know is pretty par for the course anyway.

In an official statement, Konami had the following to say of the sales figures:

“This achievement reinforces the series’ status as an iconic horror franchise that continues to resonate with fans yearning for an unsettling psychological horror experience,[…] Through the lens of Silent Hill f, players dive into a haunting narrative by Ryukishi07 based on a ‘beautiful yet horrifying' artistic vision.”

With Silent Hill f a hit, hype is now higher for Konami's next project, the remake of Silent Hill 1, that also sees Bloober Team back at the helm. Along with Christophe Gans' upcoming movie Return to Silent Hill, it could be that we're finally in a series renaissance.
