It’s time to head back to Skull Island! Apple TV+ has revealed the first trailer for Monarch: Legacy of Monsters season 2, which finally arrives early next year. While this is very much just a teaser, it does reveal a few key things. For one, King Kong is back in action, leading the way when the show returns. We also see that Kurt Russell is indeed returning as Lee Shaw. His fate was left somewhat uncertain in the season 1 finale. Check it out for yourself.

The beginning of the teaser goes full-on found footage, which is new for the MonsterVerse. We also see a little bit of the Shaws interacting with Kong, which is a change from last season, which was Godzilla-centric. There’s also a very large, mysterious Titan coming from the season that looks to be Kraken-inspired. Most importantly, the teaser reveals that the show will return in February. Mark your calendars and plan accordingly.
Wyatt Russell, Anna Sawai, Kiersey Clemons, Ren Watabe, Mari Yamamoto, Joe Tippett and Anders Holm star in season 2. Prey star Amber Midthunder is also joining the ensemble this time around. As for what the second season will be about? The official synopsis reads as follows:
“Season two will pick up with the fate of Monarch — and the world — hanging in the balance. The dramatic saga reveals buried secrets that reunite our heroes (and villains) on Kong’s Skull Island, and a new, mysterious village where a mythical Titan rises from the sea. The ripple effects of the past make waves in the present day, blurring the bonds between family, friend and foe — all with the threat of a titan event on the horizon.”
There was a sizable gap between seasons, with the first installment wrapping up in early 2024. But it takes time to bring all of these monsters to life. When Apple renewed the show, they also announced some possible Monarch spin-offs, but we’ve yet to hear anything more on that front.
Elsewhere, the MonsterVerse continues to thrive. Following the success of last year’s Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire, Warner Bros. and Legendary are in production on a follow-up entitled Godzilla x Kong: Supernova. It is due to hit theaters in March 2027. There will be no shortage of Godzilla and/or Kong content on our screens in the coming years, that much is certain.
