It’s not just the superfans saying that horror’s been making a lasting impact on the film industry in the last few years: the data’s proving it. IMDb has just released their lists of the most popular films, television shows, and celebrities of 2025, based on data from their more than 250 million monthly visitors, and the hard facts reveal that audiences are hungrier than ever for horror across the board.
While Superman took the top spot for most popular film of the year, four of the ten spots were filled by horror films, with Weapons and Sinners coming in at number two and number three respectively. Also on the list are Jurassic World: Rebirth, coming in at number five, and Guillermo del Toro’s Frankenstein, which falls just behind at number six. A few other horror titles also landed on their staff favorites list, including 28 Years Later, The Monkey, and Bring Her Back.
But the platform’s most popular television shows list is where the genre really shines. A whopping six of the ten spots are occupied by horror titles, including The Last of Us at number two (displaced only by The White Lotus), Wednesday, Squid Game, Dexter: Resurrection, and Monster taking up spots four through seven, and Black Mirror rounding out the list at number ten. The only other non-horror shows that stood a chance were Severance, Dept. Q, and Andor.
Things get a bit murkier when it comes to IMDB’s star ratings, but some familiar faces managed to climb the ranks this year. Alien: Earth star Sydney Chandler ranked number seven on their list of most popular stars of 2025, alongside Fallout alum Walton Goggins at number eight, and landed a spot on their most popular breakout stars list at number four, a club which also includes Yellowjackets and Companion star Sophie Thatcher.
