And potentially a TV series!

Clearly a fan of the phrase “if at first you don't succeed, try and try again”, cult filmmaker Uwe Boll (Alone in the Dark, House of the Dead) is set to direct another movie adaptation of the 1992 survival horror game Alone in the Dark.

Per The Hollywood Reporter, who revealed the news exclusively earlier today, Boll´s Event Films has optioned the film rights to the hit game series from publisher THQ Nordic, with production partner Michael Roesch noting they were also looking to develop the franchise into a TV series – which, given the Alone in the Dark series' episodic stories of private detective Edward Carnby and his fight against the supernatural, could in theory actually work pretty well.

Boll's original 2005 Alone in the Dark adaptation starring Christian Slater and Tara Reid was, err, not kindly received by critics and audiences alike, to say the least. But as us horror fans are wont to do, the pic has been somewhat reappraised as something of a so-bad-it's-good cult classic.

No news yet on who will star in the remake or specific plot details, but Boll reportedly plans to “stay closer to the original game”, following the story of the latest reimagining of the game released last year:

“We will capture the spirit and the era of the original games and follow the story of the new game […] we can´t wait to reboot the franchise and cast our new Edward Carnby.”

Look out for updates on Alone in the Dark as we get 'em, and for more, here's nine horror video games we think deserve movie adaptations next (and who should direct them!)
