Emmy and Grammy Award-nominated composer Bear McCreary (The Walking Dead, Godzilla: King of the Monsters, The Last Voyage of the Demeter) is bringing his musical talent to the score of Goodbye, Monster, the upcoming horror short from director Luke Barnett (The Crossing Over Express) and FANGORIA Studios.
The practical-effects driven short, which centers on a 12-year-old boy who receives one final visit from the creature who lives under his bed, features vocal performances from Fango friend and contributor Patton Oswalt and Tina Majorino, with Kue Lawrence (Marshmallow) and Barnett also starring. Practical FX whiz Dan Crawley (Interstellar, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, Terrifier 3) crafts the creature.
Famed for his epic, sweeping symphonic scores inspired by everything from heavy metal to Nordic folk music, McCreary has been one of the most prolific composers across television, film and games since the early 2000s, breaking through with his work on the classic sci-fi series Battlestar Galactica. Whatever he's got in score for Goodbye, Monster, horror fans are in for a real treat.
Speaking with Fango, Barnett expressed his excitement at having McCreary on board for Goodbye, Monster:
Bear McCreary’s music has always had this rare ability to feel both cinematic and deeply human. With Goodbye, Monster, he understood immediately that the film isn't about the monster, it's about what it means to outgrow something you once needed. His score captures that transition in a way that’s both haunting and beautiful. I’ve been a fan of Bear’s work for years, so working with him on this was surreal. And realizing he's also just a really good dude? Icing on the cake. I'm lucky.”
Goodbye, Monster is currently in post-production and will premiere on the festival circuit later this year. Vince and Natalie Masciale produced the short alongside Barnett. Executive Producers include Tara Ansley, Armen Aghaeian, and Abhi Goel, with Jake Morgan and Cole Travis. Co-Producers are Joshua Bootz, Adam J. Losoya, and Michael Brodner.
Stay tuned for more on Goodbye, Monster and FANGORIA Studios.
