Almost ninety years after he first debuted, Archie Andrews is back on comic shop shelves. As a part of their partnership with Archie Comic Publications, Oni Press revealed a new wave of Riverdale-set comics hitting shelves this year, honoring not only the classic legacy of the beloved character, but also his scarier side too.
This November, readers can descend to the underworld with Archie in Hell, a new series written by Patrick Horvath with art by Tyler Crook. Following up on the recent Afterlife With Archie series, the new line follows the titular redhead in an alternate universe Riverdale where his life goes completely to hell…literally. The series’ synopsis is as follows:
In another time, in another Riverdale, Archie Andrews’ radiant life is about to turn pitch black. Separated from his friends and bound by a terrible curse, there’s only one way to save Archie: to damn him. But he won’t be alone for long…
But before that, readers can get their hands on a new Sabrina the Teenage Witch series, written by Corinna Bechko with art by Eisner Award nominee Kano. Hitting shelves in October, the new series follows Sabrina as she tries to balance honing her magic with the trials of being a high schooler — all of which is upended when her feline companion Salem drops a mythical trickster on her doorstep, making it nearly impossible to keep her two lives separate.

These new releases line up with the eighty-fifth anniversary of Archie’s first appearance in 1941, in Pep Comics #22, which began a legacy that continues to this day, and stretches from comics to television shows to a new live-action movie currently in development. The celebration is topped off with a brand-new, reimagined Archie series, written by Ben H. Winters, sending the title character on a whirlwind all-star adventure through Riverdale’s past, present, and future. Featuring art by Fábio Moon, Nick Cagnetti, and Stuart Immonen, the new headline series hits shelves in September.
“One year ago, we started work on what has quickly become one of the most significant and anticipated collaborations in Oni’s 30-year history: our new and ambitious line of titles celebrating the greatness of Archie Comics,” said Oni Press President & Publisher Hunter Gorinson. “ From Archie to Sabrina and Archie in Hell, our new comics are brimming with pop and power – from content to design, each issue is intended to be a highly concentrated dose of pure entertainment and unadulterated bliss, propelled by the never-ending energy of Archie’s 85-year legacy.”
