Matthew Lillard’s liquor brand Macabre Spirits is taking us to the sea with its latest release. They’ve just announced Saltspray, the third original concoction in their spirits lineup, this time a hardy Jamaican rum that’ll give any ghostly pirate a run for their money.

Sourced from Hampden Estate, one of the oldest Jamaican distilleries still in operation, Saltspray features a 90-proof, pot-stilled rum made in the English style, with notes of bold spice, honey, and warm apple before ending with “signature Jamaican funk” (whatever that is). Featuring art by Daniele Serra, Macabre recommends drinking it neat to enjoy its bold flavor — though, if you’re like me, I wouldn’t blame you for popping a couple whiskey cubes in to cut the strength.

As with every original Macabre Spirits release, Saltspray also comes with a unique short story, this time written by Bram Stoker Award nominee Gemma Amor, described as follows: “In a cliffside cottage about to collapse into the sea, a young woman discovers that water doesn’t always wash away sin—sometimes, it brings it.” Amor joins Christopher Buehlman and horror auteur Mike Flanagan as the latest to whip something up for the beloved spirits brand.

Saltspray is the fifth release from Macabre Spirits — itself an imprint of Find Familiar Spirits — and its third wholly original spirit. Others include the whiskey Hell Is Not Mocked and Rare, Fine & Limited, made from the Mexican spirit sotol, as well as Horrorwood Reserve, a whiskey produced in collaboration with Ice Nine Kills, and Ghost Face Vodka, themed after the beloved killer from Scream, which notably featured Lillard in 1996.

Retailing for $100 a bottle, presales for Saltspray begin at 8AM PT/11AM ET on June 23. Interested buyers can also join Find Familar’s Fam Club — a membership that costs $50 a year — to get 15% off when they purchase, alongside other benefits like members-only vault sales, early access to new products, and invites to live events.
