It’s nearly the end of an era for Joe Bob Briggs. The beloved, legendary horror host recently said goodbye to The Last Drive-In on Shudder. At the very least, he and Darcy the Mail Girl bid farewell to the series as a regular show. However, they still have a few specials that will air on Shudder before the duo pack it in and move onto the next chapter. We now know when the next one of those specials will premiere.

As part of Shudder’s July offerings, the streamer will air Joe Bob’s Savage Summer! on Friday, July 10. Mark your calendars and plan accordingly. This is one of four specials hosted by Briggs that will air throughout 2026. He and Darcy previously headed up Joe Bob's Wicked Witchy Wingding in April. As for what to expect from this upcoming double feature? Shudder released a synopsis for the special, which reads as follows:
“The legendary horror host is turning up the heat for Joe Bob's Savage Summer! Together with Darcy the Mail Girl and a few special guests, Joe Bob hosts a summer screening of two titans of transgressive cinema, including an infamous ‘Video Nasty’ that he's never been allowed to host – until now.”
As for what this Video Nasty title is? Fans can only speculate for now but given that Briggs has hosted some pretty hardcore stuff on The Last Drive-In over the years, one can only imagine what it might be. The special guests also haven’t been revealed as of this writing, but Briggs often likes to keep those surprises intact until the show premieres.
Just like The Last Drive-In, this new special will have a live-streaming premiere, allowing for a communal viewing experience, one that many fans of the show have come to really enjoy over the years. Yes, the show and specials have always been available to watch on-demand after the fact, but fans are very aware that there’s a magic to the shared viewing experience, which is harder and harder to come by in the streaming era.
After this one airs, Joe Bob and Darcy will have just two specials remaining before they leave Shudder behind. What comes next remains a bit of a mystery but we know that Briggs is making a new show in 2027, which we learned a little about recently. It remains unclear which streaming service or network will house the show, or what it will be called but Briggs isn’t ready to pack it in just yet. The drive-in will never die, as it were.
Joe Bob’s Savage Summer premieres on Shudder on Friday, July 10 at 9 pm E.T.
