Fans of old-school themed pizza restaurants, scary bears and 2D video games, this one’s for you. Five Nights at Freddy’s is back with a brand new game that is now available on Stream, with a console release also on deck for later this year. Mega Cat Studios has released a launch trailer for Five Nights at Freddy’s: Into the Pit to commemorate the release of the latest game in the series. It looks like a retro throwback very much befitting what it is this franchise has been tapping into from the beginning. Check it out.
Even as someone who admittedly hasn’t messed with the Freddy’s games too much, this looks like a good bit of fun. It appears to be a series of minigames mixed with side-scrolling exploration, all with a pretty dark, twisted tale being told. Something about the 2D, retro vibe really suits this franchise. Frankly, it’s a little surprising it’s taken this long to get a game of this sort from the creators. Heck, we’ve even had several board games such as last year’s Five Nights at Freddy’s FightLine. Better late than never though. The official description of the game reads as follows:
“Jump into the pit and immerse yourself in a new chapter in the Five Nights at Freddy’s universe. Oswald wishes his town, and his life, weren’t so boring. That all changes when he explores the ball pit in a rundown pizzeria and finds himself in the past. However, Oswald’s deepest desire will have an unexpected cost…Survive five nights of terror in this chilling adventure game. Travel between time periods, gather clues, and outrun the threat relentlessly pursuing you. Move swiftly and stay hidden, and you may just survive. But be careful—it’s not just your own life that’s on the line. Oswald’s father and children from the past could all meet their end if you don’t save them.”
Mega Cat says that the story of the game spans decades, and that there are different endings depending on how one ventures through the game. So there is probably some replay factor in here, which always makes a game more worth the investment. The game is currently priced at $19.99.
Five Nights at Freddy’s dates back to 2014 when creator Scott Cawthon released the first game, which became a true viral sensation. In the years since, the franchise has exploded to include more than a dozen games, books and other media, all weaving a surprisingly complex narrative with rich mythology. Things were taken to new heights in 2023 when Blumhouse’s Five Nights at Freddy’s movie became a monster hit, pulling in $297 million at the box office. A sequel is currently in the works and is due to hit theaters in December 2025.
Five Nights at Freddy’s: Into the Pit is available on Steam now. For More, read about how video games are becoming instrumental in cultivating the next generation of horror fans.
