One of the most celebrated (and divisive) slasher films of 2024 is coming to Blu-ray. IFC Films and Shudder have announced the In a Violent Nature – Collector’s Edition, which will be hitting shelves later this month. The film is already available on DVD but for hardcore fans, this is the version well worth waiting for. Not only does it come with the added benefit of HD provided by Blu-ray, but it also comes packed with over three hours of bonus features, allowing viewers to dive deep into the making of this inventive horror endeavor.
In a Violent Nature hit theaters earlier this year and was the brainchild of writer/director Chris Nash. The film arrived in its raw, unrated form and did pretty well for itself. So much so that In a Violent Nature 2 is already in development. In the meantime, fans can dive deeper into the first film with this forthcoming physical release, which arrives on October 15. The release includes one of four limited edition posters, which you can check out below. It retails for $29.99, though it’s currently on sale on Amazon for $17.99. We’ve also got a breakdown of the included bonus features.

In a Violent Nature was met largely with praise from critics. It took the classic slasher flick and turned it on its head, giving us an entire film from the perspective of the killer, in this case an undead brute named Johnny. The result was undeniably original, though admittedly not for everyone. For those who do vibe with it, they might be willing to call it an instant classic. That makes this collector’s edition a welcome one. The synopsis for the film reads as follows:
“When a locket is removed from a collapsed fire tower in the woods that entombs the rotting corpse of Johnny, a vengeful spirit spurred on by a horrific 60-year old crime, his body is resurrected and becomes hellbent on retrieving it. The undead golem hones in on the group of vacationing teens responsible for the theft and proceeds to methodically slaughter them one by one in his mission to get it back – along with anyone in his way.”
“With regards to the character of Johnny, I was very much indebted to archetypal slashers of films like the Friday the 13th series, The Burning, or My Bloody Valentine, and more,” Nash said in a statement.” The same is true of his would-be victims, but it was important that their depiction wouldn’t be a commentary on tropes or archetypes, and instead be wielded as tools to tell a familiar story in a different way; and, in turn, use this shorthand to forego retreading the same slasher origin story once again. I wanted to create a world in which we can imagine that this film is actually the fourth or fifth entry in a long-running series.”
The film stars Ry Barrett, Andrea Pavlovic, Cameron Love, Reece Presley, Liam Leone, Charlotte Creaghan, Lea Rose Sebastianis, Sam Roulston, Alexander Oliver and Lauren Taylor. Peter Kuplowsky and Shannon Hanmer serve as producers.
