Almost fifty years after he originally terrorized theaters, the king of all slashers is making his way back to the big screen. That’s right, John Carpenter’s seminal horror film Halloween is returning to theaters for a limited time this month to celebrate the season from which it takes its name.
Starring scream queen royalty Jamie Lee Curtis and Donald Pleasance, the horror classic will be playing in over six hundred theaters in four hundred markets, just one of a number of horror rereleases to hit cinemas this year, after the success of Alien and Coraline making their way back to the big screen. But that’s not all: two additional films in the franchise will make their return to theaters as well. Skipping over Halloween II and the divisive Halloween III: Season of the Witch, which forgoes Michael Myers entirely, Halloween 4: The Return of Michael Myers and Halloween 5: The Revenge of Michael Myers will make their way back to theaters for the first time since the late ‘80s.
“The best way to experience Halloween this season is on the big screen,” said Malek Akkad, CEO of Trancas International Films. “We are excited to collaborate with our partners at CineLife Entertainment to bring Halloween, Halloween 4 and Halloween 5 to so many theaters and markets. This is a chance for both long-time fans and a new generation to experience the thrill of these iconic films as they were meant to be seen.”
The success of Halloween in 1978 spawned one of the biggest and most iconic slasher franchises in cinema history, with twelve additional films added to its legacy, including David Gordon Green’s sequel trilogy that’s proved almost as divisive as Halloween III, and co-starred Judy Greer, Rohan Campbell, and James Jude Courtney,
Halloween will return to theater screens throughout the month of October. For more information on where to see it and how to find tickets, check out the film’s website.
