Five Nights at Freddy's 2, the hotly-anticipated sequel to Emma Tammi and Blumhouse's animatronic horror Five Nights at Freddy's, begins filming very, very soon according to star Matthew Lillard.
In an interview with ComicBook.com, Lillard, who plays series antagonist William Afton, reveals that filming on the second instalment would begin “in 10 days”, which would put the start date on October 27, or a little after, just over a year until the film's projected release date of December 5, 2025. Lillard apparently gave this as the reason for sporting a “horrible beard” (we can't imagine anything looks horrible on you Matthew but, ok).
Eagle-eyed Freddy‘s fans reportedly clocked a mysterious project known only as ‘Music Box' was scheduled to start filming in New Orleans (where the first Five Nights at Freddy‘s was filmed) on October 28. If their sleuthing is correct, that means Freddy's 2 would be set to start two Mondays from now.
Released in October 2023, Five Nights at Freddy‘s, an adaptation of Scott Cawthon's massively successful video game franchise of the same name, grossed an impressive worldwide gross of $297 million, making it Blumhouse's highest-grossing release worldwide.
Alongside Lillard, the film stars Josh Hutcherson, Piper Rubio and Mary Stuart Masterson, and follows a security guard working the night shift at an abandoned pizza parlour full of murderous animatronics, created by the FANGORIA Chainsaw Award-nominated Jim Henson’s Creature Workshop.
Details on what direction the plot will take in Five Nights at Freddy's 2 (for which Tammi is pegged to return as director) are still firmly under wraps, but Cawthon did send fans on a fun little goose chase when he posted several pages from an apparent screenplay – except most of them were fake.
That's all the updates we have on Five Nights at Freddy's 2 for now – we'll bring you more as they roll in.
