Kyle Edward Ball, the director behind the hugely successful FANGORIA Chainsaw Award-winning indie horror Skinamarink, has officially partnered with genre giants A24 for his next feature Land of Nod.
Reporting the news exclusively today, Variety reveals that plot details for Land of Nod are tightly under wraps, but that Ball will write and direct, and A24 will globally distribute.
Land of Nod will be produced by Ronald Bronstein, Eli Bush and Josh Safdie under their new production banner Central Pictures, as well as SpectreVision’s Lawrence Inglee, Daniel Noah and Elijah Wood, plus Tatiana Bears and Bruno Vernaschi Berman. Theo Vieljeux will executive produce.
We're sure you need no reminding, but upon its release in 2023, Skinamarink was the talk of the horror world, racking up a $2 million global box office from a humble $15,000 budget, and scaring even hardcore horror fans witless. The film's divisive nature helped add to the word of mouth surrounding it, and it soon became a viral hit on TikTok and YouTube.
Described as ‘David Lynch meets Poltergeist‘, the experimental horror followed two young children, Kevin and Kaylee, who wake up one evening to find their parents gone and all the doors of their home disappeared. The bizarre, nightmarish visuals and oppressive atmosphere reminded viewers of deep childhood fears and struck a chord with many.
Skinamarink‘s liminal nature leant it an air of mystery that Land of Nod is already emulating by being so secretive. We'll bring you any updates as we get them.
