For a great many horror fans, Robert Eggers’ Nosferatu is the most-anticipated movie of the year. This has been a long time coming, with one of our emerging modern masters of the genre offering his take on a truly classic tale. Even though the film is still a couple of months away, we’re already getting some pretty interesting product tie-ins. Namely, a perfume inspired by the film that will make you smell like a vampire. Yes, really.
Heretic Parfum has partnered with Focus Features for a limited-edition scent that is also titled Nosferatu, which is available now. Inspired by the film, the custom scent was made in collaboration with perfumer Douglas Little. Through the film, historical research and time period understanding, Little brought “the essence of Nosferatu into a fragrance while exploring the question: What does a vampire smell like?” Given that Eggers’ film has been described as “scary and smelly,” one might wonder if that’s a good thing. Credit to all involved, the description of the perfume does sound pleasant.
“A scent as atmospheric as the film, the perfume transports the wearer into the dark spaces inhabited by Count Orlok himself. The Eau de macabre opens with top notes of lilac and ambrette seed that fall into a heart chord of violet, orris root and petrichor. The mysterious dry-down is woven around vegan ambergris and Oud absolute. Described as, cold, pale and pellucid, the fragrance evokes the uneasy chill of encountering an apparition.”

Each bottle retails for $125. The cap of each 30ml bottle comes engraved with Count Orlok’s sigil and comes packaged in a black coffret with printed fragrance notes and inspiration. Heretic notes that this is a limited-edition release, so those who are interested would do well to act quickly. Even in the era of wild popcorn buckets for movies like Terrifier 3 and Alien: Romulus, this is pretty damn unique.
Eggers, of The Witch and The Lighthouse fame, directed and wrote the upcoming film. It features a star-studded cast led by Bill Skarsgard (It, Barbarian) in the title role. The impressive ensemble also includes Nicholas Hoult (Renfield), Lily-Rose Depp (Yoga Hosers), Aaron Taylor-Johnson (Bullet Train), Emma Corrin (Deadpool & Wolverine), Ralph Ineson (The First Omen), Simon McBurney (The Conjuring 2) and Willem Dafoe (Beetlejuice Beetlejuice). The brief logline for the film reads as follows:
“Robert Eggers’ Nosferatu is a gothic tale of obsession between a haunted young woman and the terrifying vampire infatuated with her, causing untold horror in its wake.”
The Nosferatu perfume is available now at HereticParfum.com. Look for the movie in theaters on December 25. For more, read Fango’s retrospective on the original Nosfearatu.
