Scream queen Samara Weaving (Ready or Not, Scream 6, Azrael) is set to star in an American remake of the 2021 Norwegian comedy-thriller The Trip (I onde dagar) , currently in the works from The Lonely Island's Jorma Taccone.

Weaving will star alongside Jason Segel, Juliette Lewis and Timothy Olyphant in the genre-bending feature, with Paul Guilfoyle (LA Confidential) and former UFC star Keith Jardine (Inherent Vice) also appearing.

Based on Tommy Wirkola's original, which starred Noomi Rapace and Askel Hennie, The Trip follows a dysfunctional couple (Segel and Weaving) who head to a remote cabin to supposedly reconnect, but each has secret plans to kill the other. The script for the remake was adapted by Nick Kocher and Brian McElhaney.

In a statement, Wirkola expressed his excitement for The Trip:

“I can’t wait to see Jorma bring his totally singular sensibility to the material […] That, combined with this killer cast, makes me beyond excited that this film will truly stand out in the cinematic landscape.”

Taccone also added his praise for the creator of the original film:

“I’m a huge fan of Tommy’s work and I love the original film. I have a totally singular sensibility, and I can’t wait to see what I bring to the material.”

Variety report that XYZ is financing and also producing alongside 87North’s Kelly McCormick, Lee Kim, and Guy Danella. Taccone and Tommy Wirkola are executive producing with Karen Gillan co-producing.

The Trip is currently filming in Finland. We'll bring you more updates as they roll in. In the meantime, check out the trailer for the original movie below:
