Party Like It’s 1999 With Y2K Limited Edition VHS & CD

The sci-fi horror film is playing in theaters now.

In case Y2K didn’t give you enough nostalgia for a time before iPhones when the internet still made awful noises in order to get a connection, A24’s got just the ticket for you. Following a recent fad of releasing modern films on VHS, the company is doing the same for their latest film starring Julian Dennison and Rachel Zegler, with a special limited edition release available on their shop.

The tape, which features new cover art from Allison Reimold, with additional design by Matthew Dix, retails for $30 USD on A24’s official site — a steal, compared to the prices of some of the items for sale alongside it. In order to fit the VHS nostalgia perfectly, the Kyle Mooney-directed film has also been cropped from its original ratio to letterbox format.

Also on sale is a CD of the film’s soundtrack, forgoing the resurgence of vinyl records for a more thematically appropriate piece of collectable media. The CD features not only some of the film’s best needle drops — including tracks by Mandy Moore, Korn, and Fatboy Slim — but also contributions from the film’s cast, also including IT’s Jaeden Martell, and retails for $16 USD.

In his review for FANGORIA, Richard Newby called Y2K a total smoke sesh ‘what if?' concept,” praising its ability to be silly but also “surprisingly poignant” in moments of total chaos:

It feels refreshing to see nostalgia explored through a lens outside of the '80s, and much praise is owed to costume designer Katina Danabassis (Lady Bird, Bodies Bodies Bodies) who expertly recreates the look of the late '90s. The soundtrack, featuring hits from Chumbawamba, Sisqo, Brian McKnight, Limp Bizkit, and others, also lends itself well to immersing the film in its '90s aesthetic. But for horror and cult film enthusiasts, Mooney's appreciation and reverence for '90s films of that ilk add another layer of fun to Y2K

Y2K is playing in theaters now, with the VHS and CD available for pre-order now from A24. Check out both down below:
