Mason Gooding Returns For Another Round With Ghostface In SCREAM 7

Kevin Williamson's slasher sequel hits theaters on February 27, 2026.

It looks like only one member of the Core Four will be returning for Scream 7, with Variety confirming that Mason Gooding will return for Kevin Williamson's slasher sequel set for release in February 2026.

Gooding played Chad Meeks-Martin in 2022's Scream and its sequel Scream VI, the nephew of Scream‘s Randy Meeks. No word yet on whether Jasmin Savoy Brown, who played Chad's twin sister Mindy, will return for her role.

Gooding joins series star Neve Campbell, returning to her role as final girl Sidney Prescott, Isabel May, McKenna Grace, Sam Rechner, Celeste O’Connor and Asa Germann. Courteney Cox and Patrick Dempsey are also said to be circling returning roles as Gale Weathers and Mark Kincaid respectively.

Despite a rocky start, with reboot stars Melissa Barrera and Jenna Ortega no longer set to return, Scream 7 seems to have landed on its final cast. Plot details are still under wraps, other than that the sequel will be a “Sidney Prescott story“, with Williamson directing from a script by Guy Busick.

Speaking with Variety back in March, Gooding addressed the controversies surrounding Barrera's firing, and the subsequent departure of Ortega and director Christopher Landon, saying he certainly didn't see this as an end to the franchise:

“If it could make money, I guarantee, they’re making it […] It’s all about keeping up with what feels like is the best movie for the fans. ‘Scream’ doesn’t exist without the people who enjoy is as much as they do. … If people want it, they will certainly try their best to see it happen.”

And he's not wrong – Scream VI racked up more than $169 million at the worldwide box office, and as a whole, the Scream franchise has earned more than $900 million worldwide. Needless to say, Scream 7 shows no signs of slowing down the series from remaining one of the biggest horror franchises of all time.
