Genre giant A24 has nabbed domestic rights to Victorian Psycho, the upcoming horror-thriller from Sanctuary‘s Zachary Wigon, starring Margaret Qualley (The Substance) and Thomasin McKenzie (Old, Last Night in Soho), Deadline report today.
Based on the novel Mrs. March from author Virginia Feito, who also wrote the script, Victorian Psycho is set to start production in May 2025, and follows:
Set in 1858, the film will follow a young, eccentric governess named Winifred Notty (Qualley) who arrives at the remote gothic manor known as Ensor House. Winifred’s responsibilities include teaching the children table manners and educating them about their family’s history, all whilst hiding her psychopathic tendencies.
As Winifred assimilates into life at Ensor House, staff members begin to inexplicably disappear, and the owners of the estate begin to wonder if there is something amiss about their new governess.
McKenzie will play a nursemaid at Ensor House who befriends the eccentric new Governess.
Longlegs‘ Dan Kagan is producing under his Traffic. banner as well as Sebastien Raybaud (Greenland) and Wigon, in association with Anonymous Content. Nick Shumaker and Bard Dorros will executive-produce.
Victorian Psycho marks a reunion for Qualley and Wigon, who previously worked together on the psychosexual thriller Sanctuary with Christopher Abbott.
