Insidious The Further You Fear, an immersive live horror experience based on the box office hit horror franchise from Blumhouse, James Wan and Leigh Whannell, has launched its North American tour, bringing the frights to over 80 cities across the nation.
Hosted as a live show by the “real” Specs and Tucker, the actual paranormal investigators who inspired the original 2010 movie, Insidious The Further You Fear is an immersive live show that's not quite a movie and not quite a play, but a third, uniquely terrifying, thing. The 80-minute long experience is “not for those who are easily rattled, as the audience will play an integral character in the chilling story as it unravels live right before your eyes.” Gulp.
During Insidious The Further You Fear, co-directed by Toby Park and Aitor Basauri from Spymonkey, the audience finds themselves under attack by familiar frightening characters from the world of Insidious, including the Bride in Black, the Wheezing Man and the terrifying Lipstick Face Demon.
In our previous interview, Insidious: The Further You Fear co-writer Carl Grose explained how his own experience as an Insidious lover shaped the experience:
“Being an Insidious fan, I know what I’d want to see if I went to a show like this. Yes, you want the building dread, the (possibly) haunted house, and all the creaks and shadows and scares that come with that. But I know I’d also really want to see certain iconic demon characters and the like. The biggest thrill for me was to get to play with the incredible mythology Leigh Whannell and James Wan created. The Further is a wild place. I can’t wait to put that world on stage for the fans. I think we deliver the goods.”
This year hopefully brings the sixth installment in the Insidious franchise, the spin-off Thread: An Insidious Tale starring Kumail Nanjiani and Mandy Moore, although no release date has yet been set.
