The 1990s remake renaissance continues with Variety revealing today that a remake of the 1998 school-set cult classic The Faculty is in the works at Miramax.
Robert Rodriguez, who directed the 1998 original, is set to produce, with Companion‘s Drew Hancock on script duties. BoulderLight (Barbarian, Weapons) are set to produce.
Starring Josh Hartnett in his second feature, Jordana Brewster, Clea DuVall, Shawn Hatosy, Usher Raymond and Elijah Wood, The Faculty followed a group of students who begin to suspect that the staff at their high school are hiding a deadly secret that is not of this earth.
Releasing on Christmas Day 1998, The Faculty grossed an impressive $63.2 at the box office from a $15 million budget, and generated positive reviews at the time, with its fanfare only growing as the years went by.
No word yet on cast, plot beats or who is set to direct the remake, but rest assured we will bring you updates as we get them.
