HURRY UP TOMORROW: First Look Images Show Jenna Ortega And The Weeknd In Psychological Thriller

Trey Edward Shults' "introspective and cathartic" feature hits theaters on May 16.

First look images of Hurry Up Tomorrow, the upcoming psychological thriller from director Trey Edward Shults (Waves, It Comes at Night), have landed via Entertainment Weekly, showing stars Jenna Ortega, The Weeknd and Barry Keoghan in action.

Hurry Up Tomorrow, which lands in theaters on May 16, is billed as a companion piece to The Weeknd's just-released sixth studio album of the same name.

In Hurry Up Tomorrow, co-written by Shults, The Weeknd and Reza Fahim:

“a musician plagued by insomnia gets pulled into an odyssey with a stranger (Ortega) who begins to unravel the very core of his existence,”

Speaking with EW, Shults expands on the story, saying:

“It's about an artist, you could say, on the verge of a mental breakdown […] He meets this woman, and they go on this odyssey together. It's a mix of psychological thriller and drama. I honestly feel like I've never seen a movie quite like it.”

The Weeknd, real name Abel Tesfaye, made his acting debut in Sam Levinson's controversial series TheIdol, alongside Nosferatu star Lily-Rose Depp. He's also previously graced the cover of FANGORIA, thanks to his work with FX artist Mike Marino.

Scream queen Ortega, about to be seen in Netflix's Wednesday Season 2, told EW more about her role as the mysterious Anima:

It was my understanding while shooting that my character, Anima, is a version of Abel. A side of him that the persona the Weeknd doesn’t show as much […] There were many iterations of Ani as the new script drafts came in, but I just loved that she consistently took no s— and felt everything intensely.”
