Rejoice, Peachfuzz fans – Shudder has officially renewed Patrick Brice and Mark Duplass' found footage series The Creep Tapes for a second season.
According to Deadline, who reported the news exclusively earlier today, The Creep Tapes debuted as the most watched Shudder show of all time on AMC+ and the strongest November release in Shudder history, driving record subscriber growth and social media engagement, so a second season was pretty much as good as greenlit from the get-go.
The series, which followed cult horror hit Creep (2014) and its 2017 sequel Creep 2, revolves around an enigmatic, anonymous serial killer who hires unsuspecting videographers to shoot his bizarre antics before offing them and adding the tapes to his extensive collection. The second season of The Creep Tapes will follow this same formula.
In a statement to Deadline, Duplass said:
We made the first season of The Creep Tapes completely independently, so we were able to truly and unabashedly get our freak on. The fact that so many of you watched it that Shudder not only asked us for more but asked us to go even further this time around? That’s just… really, really unsettling. And terrifically exciting.
Brice adds:
We are beyond delighted at the opportunity to bring audiences fresh kills from the closet in a second season of The Creep Tapes! For the series to have found such a rabid audience at Shudder is an absolute dream. It seems ridiculous to apply the term ‘labor of love’ to such an insane franchise, but it’s the truth. We can’t wait to dive back in.
In our interview with Duplass, the Emmy Award-nominated star teased that future seasons of The Creep Tapes could reveal even more Peachfuzz lore:
We planned for the last episode of the first season to be the most mythologically important episode. While we do like him being a mystery, we also like dropping Easter eggs as to how this man became who he became. I think we'll do that more in subsequent seasons.
