Takashi Yamazaki Confirms Bigger Budget For GODZILLA MINUS ONE Sequel

The kaiju epic racked up $116 million internationally following its 2023 release.

After Takashi Yamazaki's Oscar-winning Godzilla Minus One swept the global box office back in 2023, nobody was surprised when a sequel to the kaiju epic was announced.

In a new interview with Variety, Yamazaki has confirmed that screenplay and storyboards are well under way, as well as confirming that Toho has agreed to a higher budget this time around.

Made on a relatively low budget of $10-15 million, Godzilla Minus One racked up $116 million internationally, and took home the Academy Award for Best Visual Effects.

Starring Ryunosuke Kamiki, Sakura Ando, Minami Hamabe and Hidetaka Noshioda, Godzilla Minus One followed a failed kamikaze pilot and a group of civilians trying to defend a ravaged Japan from the radiation-breathing beast.

At the time of writing, we know very little about the Godzilla Minus One sequel, other than that it will be dated in accordance to real time. Whether or not the picture will continue the story of Shikishima and Noriko remains to be seen.

Yamazaki is also currently working on his English-language debut, Grandgear, with Sony Pictures and J.J. Abrams' Bad Robot.

Look out for more Godzilla news as we get it.
