Popeye the Sailor Man is the latest beloved children's character to be put through the public domain horror grinder, with Popeye's Revenge now available exclusively through Video on Demand on Amazon.
The first of two Popeye-themed slashers sailing the seas this year so far (the other being Popeye the Slayer Man), Popeye's Revenge is directed by William Stead (Children of the Night) and executive produced by the team behind Winnie-The-Pooh: Blood and Honey 1 & 2.
Popeye's Revenge‘s logline simply reads:
“The legend of Popeye haunts a group of councilors as they intend to open a summer camp.”
From this outline and what we've seen in the trailer, Popeye's Revenge is clearly taking some inspiration from the most famous of camp-set slasher icons, Jason Voorhees and the Friday the 13th series.
Popeye's Revenge stars Kelly Rian Sanson (Winnie-the-Pooh: Blood and Honey 2), Danielle Scott (Winnie-the-Pooh: Blood and Honey), and Danielle Ronald (Winnie-the-Pooh: Blood and Honey), with Popeye himself being played by Steven Murphy.
