Deer little Bambi is the latest beloved childhood character put through the public domain horror ringer, with today bringing a brand new trailer for Bambi: The Reckoning.
Directed by Dan Allen, Bambi: The Reckoning stars Roxanne Mckee (Game of Thrones, Hercules), Tom Mulheron, Nicola Wright (Sexy Beast), Samira Mighty and Alex Cooke. “Poohniverse” creators Scott Chambers and Rhys-Frake Waterfield (Winnie-the-Pooh: Blood and Honey,Peter Pan’s Neverland Nightmare) produced the pic through their Jagged Edge Productions banner.
Loosely based on the character from Disney's 1942 cartoon Bambi (itself based on Felix Staten's 1923 novel Bambi, a Life in the Woods), Bambi: The Reckoning follows:
We follow Xana (Roxanne McKee) and her son Benji (Tom Mulheron) who find themselves in a car wreck and soon hunted down by the vicious killing machine, Bambi. Bambi will destroy anyone in its path! Oh dear, we aren't done!
Following Bambi: The Reckoning, Bambi will go on to join Jagged Edge's upcoming Avengers-style crossover Poohniverse: Monsters Assemble, where the deer will join Winnie, Peter Pan, Tinkerbell, Tigger, Piglet, The Mad Hatter, Sleeping Beauty and more. Whatever your feelings about the IP horror takeover, considering how much Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey made over $5 million off a budget of just $50,000, we can expect the Poohniverse to carry on expanding.
Bambi: The Reckoning hits theaters this summer, with ITN Studio releasing the film alongside Premiere Entertainment. Watch the new trailer below.
