It’s been a minute since we’ve had a good home invasion thriller. Horror’s been focused primarily on other things for the moment, but now, Magnet Releasing and LuckyChap are bringing the subgenre back in full force with their latest film, Borderline. Starring scream queen Samara Weaving, the film puts a ‘90s pop star through the motions as an obsessed stalker breaks into her home, and now, FANGORIA is excited to debut an exclusive clip ahead of its premiere in theaters on March 14.
In the clip, Weaving’s pop star Sofia is concerned for her sanity after an attack by a stalker who hurt someone else thinking it was her. While her friend simply blows her off and leaves because she’s got her “armed guard and security system from the future,” it turns out things aren’t as cushy as they seem in her McMansion, as it cuts to Alba Baptista’s Penny going to town on one of said security guards. Between tasers and her own fists, she’s got no problem breaking through the defenses, which will be bad news for Sofia when Ray Nicholson shows up. (Taking after his dad in The Shining, it seems?)
Borderline also stars Eric Dane and Jimmy Fails, and is directed by Cocaine Bear scribe Jimmy Warden in his directorial debut. The film is produced by No One Will Save You director Brian Duffield, Hadeel Reda, Josey McNamara, Tom Ackerey, and Barbie star Margot Robbie.
“We had always wanted to make a film that was reminiscent of cult classics we grew up renting from video stores and that we loved seeing in theatres,” said the film’s producers in a statement. “When we first read BORDERLINE, we were completely swept up in the story. The way the lives of this ensemble of characters intersect based on the grand delusions of Paul Duerson was so delightfully mad and surprising.”
“We are incredibly passionate about establishing new directorial voices. The script for Borderline felt so quintessentially Jimmy in its tone and voice that we could not think of anyone who could do a better job of bringing the script off the page better than Jimmy himself. That’s when we all decided to collaborate to tell this story as Jimmy’s directorial debut. We can’t wait for audiences to experience BORDERLINE.”
Borderline hits theaters this Friday. Check out the exclusive clip below.
