Thanks to a calendar shakeup at Warner Bros., Weapons, Zach Cregger's highly-anticipated follow-up to his 2022 horror hit Barbarian, will now release this year on August 8, instead of originally being scheduled for January 2026.
Described as a “multi-story horror epic” following the fallout of a group of kids who mysteriously disappear overnight, Weapons stars Josh Brolin, Julia Garner, Alden Ehrenreich, Benedict Wong, Austin Abrams, Amy Madigan, and June Diane Raphael.
Pushing Weapons forward to a summer release instead of January (traditionally, but not always, the graveyard for new horror releases), shows that Warner Bros. has confidence in the project. And they should – Barbarian grossed $45.4 million worldwide against a production budget of $4.5 million, after all.
In contrast to Weapons‘ push forward however, Maggie Gyllenhaal's steampunk horror musical The Bride!, starring Christian Bale, Jessie Buckley and Penelope Cruz, will now release in March 2026, as opposed to September of this year, possibly to avoid a tonal overlap with Guillermo del Toro's Frankenstein with Jacob Elordi, Oscar Isaac and Mia Goth.
Variety also note that the mysterious Flowervale Street, from It Follows‘ David Robert Mitchell, has been moved from March 2026 to August 14, 2026. Starring Anne Hathaway, Ewan McGregor and Maisy Stella, and produced by J.J. Abrams, very little is known about Flowervale Street aside from the fact that it's set in the 1980s and might (?) involve dinosaurs. If the Jurassic Park franchise is anything to go by, summer dinosaurs always bring in the big bucks, so it's no wonder WB has shifted Flowervale Street.
With Weapons now dropping in just a few months time, expect some images or a teaser any day now. Keep your eyes peeled for updates as we get them.
