It’s still a handful of weeks away, but when May rolls around, the summer movie season will be upon us. This year is jam-packed with franchise entries, reboots, remakes, sequels, and everything in between. But what is the most anticipated summer movie of 2025? According to the folks at Fandango, it’s not from Marvel or DC. Rather, it’s the one with a bunch of dinosaurs in it.

According to Fandango’s 2025 Moviegoing Trends and Insights Study, director Gareth Edwards’ Jurassic World Rebirth is the most-anticipated movie headed to theaters this summer. The first trailer for Rebirth dropped in February, promising a new start for the long-running franchise after 2022’s Dominion. The trailer, coupled with a stellar cast led by Scarlett Johansson (Black Widow) and Mahershala Ali (Moonlight) apparently did a lot for people, based on the results of this survey.
The seventh Jurassic flick overall came in above the likes of The Fantastic Four: First Steps, Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning, Superman and Thunderbolts*, which rounded out the top five. As far as horror goes, Danny Boyle’s long-awaited 28 Years Later also landed on the list at number seven, just above How to Train Your Dragon and below From the World of John Wick: Ballerina.
“As consumers’ appetite and interests continue to evolve, understanding moviegoing behaviors is essential to find new areas of opportunity and help drive industry growth,” said Jerramy Hainline, EVP of Fandango. “With a diverse slate of upcoming films, from superhero epics to action thrillers to cult classic sequels, this summer is proving to have something for all movie fans.”
For what it’s worth, the box office has gotten off to a really rough start in 2025. Few movies have lived up to commercial expectations and ticket sales are pacing behind this same point in 2024. This to say, we could use a robust summer season to help make up some ground.
The good news is that the Jurassic franchise has generated more than $6 billion at the box office, with even the not-so-beloved Dominion crossing the $1 billion mark. With excitement high for this latest entry, if Edwards delivers the goods, this could be the hit we truly need right now. Here’s hoping. Word is Universal didn’t skimp on the dino violence with this one, which could be a welcome change of pace for the series.
