If Stephen King’s IT put you off of clowns forever, you might want to stay away from Shudder’s latest offering, Clown in a Cornfield. Adapted from Adam Cesare’s hit young adult novel of the same name — the first in a killer series — the film hits theaters on May 9, bringing back the same fear Pennywise instilled in audiences with a brand new twist. But if you can stomach yet another killer clown, the streamer’s just dropped a new clip from the slasher for our enjoyment.
As unserious a kill as any that have ever appeared in a slasher film, Frendo’s latest kill in the new clip takes the phrase “killer workout” to a new level. By convincing a Kettle Springs teen that his friend is messing with him, the murderous clown is able to sneak up behind him while he’s doing bench presses, armed with a very rusty-looking saw. In a move that would terrify every personal trainer on the planet, Frendo grabs the bar from the teen, but instead of re-racking it, he aligns it with the saw, and…well, you can guess what happens from there.
Directed by Eli Craig, who wrote the film’s script with Carter Blanchard based on Cesare’s novel, Clown in a Cornfield stars Katie Douglas, Carson MacCormac, Aaron Abrams, Will Sasso, and Kevin Durand. The film’s logline is as follows:
Quinn and her father have just moved to the quiet town of Kettle Springs hoping for a fresh start. Instead, she discovers a fractured community that has fallen on hard times after the treasured Baypen Corn Syrup Factory burned down. As the locals bicker amongst themselves and tensions boil over, a sinister, grinning figure emerges from the cornfields to cleanse the town of its burdens, one bloody victim at a time. Welcome to Kettle Springs. The real fun starts when Frendo the clown comes out to play.
Clown in a Cornfield premieres in theaters on May 9. Check out the new clip below:
