Joe Keery (Stranger Things), Sosie Bacon (Smile) and Georgina Campbell (Barbarian) star in Cold Storage, Studiocanal's upcoming sci-fi comedy based on the novel of the same name by Jurassic Park scribe David Koepp.

Jonny Campbell (Dracula 2020) directs from Koepp's screenplay, with Vanessa Redgrave, Lesley Manville and Liam Neeson also set to star. Zombieland and Panic Room’s Gavin Polone is producing.

Variety reports today that Samuel Goldwyn Films has acquired North American rights for a planned theatrical release later this year.

In Cold Storage:

The film follows Teacake (Keery) and Naomi (Campbell), two employees at a self-storage facility built atop a former military base, whose night shift transforms into a nightmare when a government-sealed parasitic fungus escapes from the underground levels.

As temperatures rise, the microorganism unleashes its brain-controlling, body-bursting mayhem on anything in its path. The duo must join forces with a weathered bioterror operative (Neeson) to contain the threat before it triggers humanity’s extinction.

Samuel Goldwyn Films president Peter Goldwyn and CEO Ben Feingold said they were “happy to continue our relationship with Studiocanal and excited to be handling this thrilling movie from David Koepp, Jonny Campbell and Gavin Polone.”

A New York Times review of Koepp's Cold Storage recommended the novel for fans of The Andromeda Strain, and those who love “horrendous and revolting descriptions of distended bodies writhing and heaving and ribcages bursting open,” and “image[s] of unwholesome green globules of fungus bubbling along the ground toward a paralyzed scientist”. Which is definitely us.

Look out for more on Cold Storage as we get it.
