Adapted from Mary Shelley's classic novel, James Whale's 1935 sequel features Boris Karloff reprising his role as the silver screen's most misunderstood monster who now longs for a mate, starring Elsa Lanchester in the titular role. With her towering shock of black hair and her wide eyes, Lanchester's take on the Bride became an instantly enduring image of horror history.
The Bride is soon to get her own modern reimagining with Maggie Gyllenhaal's steampunk-horror-musical The Bride!, starring Jessie Buckley, Christian Bale and Penélope Cruz, hitting theaters in March 2026.
