Josh Malerman’s DECORUM AT THE DEATHBED Set For Feature Adaptation

Jenna Mattison will write the script for the BIRD BOX scribe's psychological thriller.

Screenwriter Jenna Mattison (The Sound) is set to script an adaptation of Decorum At the Deathbed, the 2021 novella from New York Times bestseller and Bram Stoker Award-winning author Josh Malerman (Bird Box), Deadline reports today.

Malerman and producing partner Ryan Lewis will produce under their Spin A Black Yarn banner. Deadline note that a hunt for a director is still underway.

Released exclusively as an Audible Original back in 2021, Decorum At The Deathbed is described as “Body Heat meets Poe’s The Tell-Tale Heart”, with the psychological thriller following:

a grieving widow that starts a twisted affair with the detective investigating the mutilated deer that keep appearing in the forest behind her house. But as the relationship deepens he begins to wonder if she’s truly a victim or a sociopathic killer. A disturbing and terrifying tale unearthing the dark shadows of the mind and finding redemption in the most unexpected of places.

You'll probably remember Bird Box‘s viral success upon release back in 2018. The psychological thriller starring Sandra Bullock and Trevante Rhodes followed a group of survivors existing in a world ravaged by mysterious entities that cause suicide upon being looked at. For a time, Bird Box was the most popular film in the streamer’s history, racking up 282.02 million hours viewed.

Decorum at the Deathbed‘s adaptation follows the recent news that Malerman's Incidents Around the House is also being adapted for screen, with The Boogeyman‘s Rob Savage set to direct, Jessica Chastain set to star and Jame's Fans Atomic Monster and Blumhouse on production duties.

Look out for more on Decorum At the Deathbed as we get it.
