Production is currently rolling in Los Angeles on Range Media Partners’ Another, the feature film debut of director Andy Chen (pictured below), who won a FANGORIA Chainsaw Award in 2023 for his short film Close Your Eyes.

Written by Chen and Alexander Hernandez-Maxwell, the movie is produced by Artin John and Kealani Kitaura and stars Bob Morley (The 100), India de Beaufort, YouTuber/comedian Anna Akana and Fango faves Doug Jones and Heather Langenkamp. The synopsis: “Another follows Joey [de Beaufort], an author struggling to cope after her brilliant scientist husband, Ben [Morley], tragically dies. When Joey wakes one morning to find Ben making pancakes in their kitchen—as if nothing ever happened—her reality begins to fracture.”

“My ultimate goal with Another is just to make something that I would enjoy watching myself,” says Chen, whose short work also includes The Spider, Gateway Drug, and Fiona. “I am my own target audience. This project is a genre-blending mashup of all my favorite things: sci-fi, mystery, horror, along with lots of fun twists and cool practical effects! We’ve built such an amazing team of talented creatives and close collaborators, and even though we have huge-scope ideas and only a modest budget, I’m confident we’re going to pull off something truly unique.”

“We’re a tight-knit indie ‘family’ working off an exciting commercial script,” John adds. “We’ve all done this together before and have developed a great shorthand—that’s the secret ingredient here. Andy is a visionary rising director, and it’s an honor to support his feature debut and produce this film from both a creative and logistical standpoint with Kealani Kitaura. I like to dream big and hop on the phone; that was the key to assembling this epic cast. It’s going to look and sound amazing. Our audience will be hooked, and I’m confident there will be a bidding war.

“Our highly efficient team,” he continues, “includes wizard production designer Alen Stubbs—known for building spaceships overnight—1st AD Ronan Arthur, gaffer Mike Duong, sniper AC Steph Vigil, and our very own in-house Deakins, [DP] Connor Smyers. The mix of talent, resources, and capabilities uniquely positions us to deliver pictures of a certain caliber, without the premium budgets associated with major studio shows—and it’s just the start of investment opportunities we’ll offer for future projects.”
