World’s First Side-Scrolling Horror Film THE WAVES OF MADNESS Now On Digital

Jason Trost's Lovecraftian feature combines retro gaming aesthetics with classic horror influences.

Lovecraftian indie feature The Waves of Madness, described as the world's first side-scrolling horror film, is now available to rent or own on Digital.

The mind-bending pic from writer/director Jason Trost (All Superheroes Must Die) blends classic horror influences and retro gaming aesthetics in a DIY testament to the power of independent filmmaking. Shot for just $20,000 in a single studio apartment with a crew of three, The Waves of Madness is coming off a successful festival run where it won Best Thriller Feature and Best Cinematography at Nightmares Film Festival 2024.

Starring alongside Trost are Ryan Gibson and Tallay Wickham, with the film following “a special agent dispatched to investigate a distress call from a round-the-world cruise. Upon arrival, the agent finds the ship eerily abandoned and haunted by a malevolent force that distorts reality and warps sanity into terror.”

In a director's statement, Trost (a fourth-generation and filmmaker and son of effects wizard Ron Trost) speaks more about the incredibly unique visual premise shown in The Waves of Madness:

“I wanted to make something that felt like it crawled out of another dimension […] This film is for anyone who's ever dreamed about making a movie with nothing but a crazy idea, a few good friends, and the will to see it through. The Waves of Madness is proof that you don’t need a big budget to make something unforgettable-you just need vision.”

The Waves of Madness is now available to rent or own on digital platforms and releases. Check out the trailer below:
