Plenty has been written about the correlation between pregnancy and horror — just look at the Alien films — as well as the connection between our favorite genre and abuse. But Adon Rackson is taking things a step further with his upcoming short Lochia, from which FANGORIA is excited to premiere some exclusive images.
Starring Krsy Fox, Lochia is written and directed by Rackson, with special effects headed up by Dan Rebert, and filming taking place in Manhattan this summer. The long-form short’s synopsis is as follows:
Over the course of a single harrowing night, May, a pregnant woman trapped in a cycle of addiction, psychosis, and domestic violence goes into labor. As her grip on reality fractures, she is forced to confront both literal and symbolic demons, fighting not only for her own survival, but for the life of her unborn child.
“The thing that drew me to this project initially was how open Adon the director was about the abuse and trauma he had endured and why he needed to tell his story through this film,” Fox said. “This is an important story to tell and a very intense character to take on. This was like a form of therapy for him and I was proud to take this journey alongside him. It physically and emotionally was one of the hardest roles I’ve ever played. Being a mother myself made some of the content hard to face but I think every impactful film needs to have that element.
For the horror fans there is an intense level of gore, and it’s definitely scary. The SPFX team Dan, Ozzy, & Kelsey absolutely killed it. You need to see the creature in this, I promise it will keep you up at night. Ludovic’s cinematography was beautiful and emotional in its movements. It definitely adds to the tension and scares throughout this film. I honestly don’t think any warning will prepare you for where this will take you as a viewer, just know it’s not for the faint of heart.”
Lochia is set to make its premiere this festival season. Check out the exclusive images below:
