Independent filmmaker Mickey Reece, who has put a unique spin on genre cinema with films like Agnes and Climate of the Hunter, is back with Every Heavy Thing, and we’ve got the exclusive first look at the trailer below. The Firebook Entertainment production, in association with Betmar-Heliand and Lowsky Productions, world-premieres at Montreal’s Fantasia International Film Festival Monday, July 21 at 9:30 p.m. and encores on Wednesday, July 23 at 2:30 p.m. Writer/director Reece and star Josh Fadem will host the premiere, and the cast also includes Fango fave Barbara Crampton, James Urbaniak, Tipper Newton, Vera Drew, John Ennis, Kaylene Snarsky, Ginger Gilmartin, Ben Hall, Mary Buss and Kaitlyn Shelby. Kassie Gann, Peter Kuplowsky and Andrew Appleyard produced the movie, with John Moss, Juan Pablo Reinoso, David Bond, Beth Alonso, Blake Johnson and Ashleigh Snead as executive producers.

Fantasia describes the film as follows: “Mickey Reece’s distinctively absurdist humor has long left its imprint on Fantasia audiences through cult favorites like Country Gold, Agnes and Climate of the Hunter. With his latest feature, Every Heavy Thing, Reece returns with a pitch-black comedy set against the unsettling backdrop of a string of disappearances, with local women vanishing without a trace.

The film follows Josh Fadem as Joe, an unassuming office worker at an online periodical who becomes entangled in a conspiracy after witnessing a murder. As a colleague begins to investigate, Joe struggles to conceal the truth, as his carefully constructed life falls apart. Reece crafts a love letter to Oklahoma once again, walking a fine line between thriller and comedy, amplifying the mood of paranoia in this offbeat take on the classic trope of the ordinary man pulled into extraordinary circumstances.”
