THE OCCUPANT OF THE ROOM: Kier-La Janisse Adapts Algernon Blackwood Ghost Story As First Narrative Feature

The WOODLANDS DARK filmmaker enlists Don McKellar to star.

Producer/curator/author Kier-La Janisse (House of Psychotic Women, Woodlands Dark and Days Bewitched: A History of Folk Horror) has wrapped principal photography on her first narrative feature, The Occupant of the Room.

Based on the short ghost story of the same name by Algernon Blackwood from 1909, The Occupant of the Room centers on a schoolteacher whose late-night arrival at a hotel in the Alps leads to a sleepless night full of uncanny occurrences.

Don McKellar (Exotica, eXistenZ) leads the cast as the aforementioned teacher, with Ben Petrie (Dead Lover) and Delphine Roussell (Porcupine Lake) also starring. Karim Hussain (Infinity Pool, Subconscious Cruelty, Orphan: First Kill) serves as cinematographer.

Per ScreenDaily, The Occupant of the Room is produced by Ruby Mannequin Films’ Liane Cunje and Shannon Hanmer and Janisse’s company Spectacular Optical. David Gregory and Carl Daft of Severin Films and Rob Cotterill of Yer Dead Productions are the executive producers.
