RESIDENT EVIL’s Latest Bioweapon Is The Duolingo Owl, Apparently

Uhhhh, sure?

With Resident Evil Requiem recently announced for a February 2026 release, horror fans and gamers alike have been getting pumped for a new entry into the iconic gaming franchise – and, uh, apparently we're not the only ones – the official Duolingo Japan account seems to be getting hyped too.

For reasons still unknown, over on Twitter/X, @Duolingo_Japan has been tweeting out a series of images featuring the language learning app's notoriously pushy owl mascot donning a fedora to take on the role of Resident Evil 2‘s big bad Mr. X, and terrorizing the series golden boy Leon Kennedy across the ruins of Raccoon City.

Per a translation from Automaton, Duolingo Japan has officially labelled the owl as “Our new biological weapon”, with the goal of “Spread[ing] language learning to the world.” Another more threatening picture sees Mr. Owl looming over Leon's shoulder with the caption “you haven't done today's lesson, right?”

The official Resident Evil account got in on the fun too, asking fans what language they think Leon is using Duolingo to learn – Spanish, surely, as anyone who's played Resident Evil 4 will know, man needs to brush up on his skills.

Resident Evil Requiem, the first new entry in the Resident Evil series since 2021's Resident Evil Village, releases on February 27, 2026, and is set 30 years after a missile strike destroys Raccoon City, and follows a new protagonist, Grace Ashcroft, an investigative reporter who’s also the daughter of Alyssa Ashcroft from 2003’s Resident Evil Outbreak. The new game is set to explore the concept of “addictive fear”, and from the sneak peek we've already seenRequiem is set to be pretty damn horrifying.

What exactly Duolingo and Resident Evil are cooking up remains a mystery, but hopefully we'll get some answers soon. For more horror gaming goodness, here's everything we know about the upcoming Silent Hill f.
