Wednesday creators Alfred Gough and Miles Millar are working on a new animated Addams Family feature for Amazon MGM Studios.

Per Deadline, who reported the news exclusively late yesterday, the new Addams Family pic will be a total reboot and unrelated to the Jenna Ortega-starring series, currently in its second season at Netflix.

Speaking with Deadline's Crew Call podcast, Gough confirmed the following:

“We’re working on it with Amazon MGM and with Kevin Miserocchi who runs the Addams Foundation, he knew Charles Addams and the keeper of the Addams flame, and with Gail Berman and John Glickman. We’re rebooting the animated film franchise. So it won’t have anything to do with the two films before it, nor is it connected with this show. It will be a brand new Addams feature. There’s not really much we can say about it, because it’s in the very early stages.”

The eponymous family have been depicted in 2D form numerous times in the past, from their humble beginnings as comic strip characters through to the 1973 animated series and a remake series that ran from 1992 to 1993. Morticia, Gomez et al also starred in the 3D animated feature The Addams Family (2019) and its sequel The Addams Family 2 (2021), which Gough is referring to in the above quote.

Gough and Millar's Tim Burton-directedWednesday has already been picked for a third season at the streamer, with a “top secret” spin-off also in the works.

Look out for more on the upcoming Addams Family movie as we get it.
