If you’ve ever wanted to get up close and personal with a Xenomorph, now’s your chance. To celebrate the release of their latest series, Alien: Earth, FX is launching “The Hunt,” a new global promotional stunt that allows fans to step into the world of the Weyland-Yutani Corporation and the dangerous cargo they’re transporting in the new series.
Beginning on August 9, fourteen cities across the globe will be the host of containment units holding mysterious alien life forms, and brave fans who approach Prodigy Corp officers protecting the assets will be rewarded with the opportunity to win a special prize. The immersive stunt will feature hidden Easter eggs, photo opportunities, and prizes, and participation enters fans into a drawing to win a pair of limited-edition Alien: Earth x Skullcandy Crusher EVO Headphones, an Alien: Earth thermos, or a collectible pin, as well as receiving special offers for collaborations with select W Hotels and Black Tap Craft Burgers & Beer locations.
The activation will be held domestically in New York City, Dallas, Nashville, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, San Francisco, and Seattle, with crates popping up internationally in Valencia, London, Toronto, Mexico City, Sāo Paulo, Tokyo, Seoul, and Sydney. Domestic locations also feature an immersive advertising campaign featuring 3D billboards, full-size crates with LED screens and sound effects, and, of course, a full-size Xenomorph with a motion-detected jump scare.
Alien: Earth, created by Noah Hawley, stars Sydney Chandler, Alex Lawther, Timothy Olyphant, Essie Davis, Samuel Blenkin, Babou Ceesay, David Rysdahl, Adrian Edmondson, Adarsh Gourav, Jonathan Ajayi, Erana James, Lily Newmark, Diem Camille and Moe Bar-El. The synopsis for the series reads as follows:
When a mysterious space vessel crash-lands on Earth, a young woman and a ragtag group of tactical soldiers make a fateful discovery that puts them face-to-face with the planet’s greatest threat in the sci-fi horror series “Alien: Earth.” As members of the crash recovery crew search for survivors among the wreckage, they encounter mysterious predatory life forms more terrifying than they could have ever imagined. With this new threat unlocked, the search crew must fight for survival and what they choose to do with this discovery could change planet Earth as they know it.
Alien: Earth is set two years before the original Ridley Scott film, released in 1979, and marks the first time the franchise has come to television. It follows last year’s Alien: Romulus, the seventh film in the franchise and the most recent after Scott’s Alien: Covenant in 2017.
Alien: Earth premieres on August 12 on FX and Hulu.
