ALIEN: ROMULUS Director Banned On Reddit For Literally Being Himself

Fede Alvarez was interacting with fans on a subreddit, which was hard for moderators to believe.

Fede Alvarez is having himself quite a nice moment. The director's latest film Alien: Romulus has been a big hit out of the gate with critics and audiences alike, successfully reviving the franchise after a seven-year absence. He even has ideas for a sequel to Romulus already, but let's not get too ahead of ourselves. Taking a bit of an appreciation victory lap, Alvarez decided to take some time to answer questions for hardcore fans on Reddit. Unfortunately, the moderators found this a little too good to be true. So Alvarez was banned – albeit briefly – for being himself.

Taking to Twitter, the filmmaker shared a screenshot from the moderators of the r/LV426 subreddit saying that he was “permanently banned” for impersonation. “Got banned from the Alien subreddit for apparently trying to impersonate, myself,” Alvarez said on Twitter with a laugh emoji to indicate he was taking it all in stride.

Fortunately, the moderators quickly realized the error of their ways. They soon shared an update that the director “was immediately reinstated and had a very friendly conversation with us. Awesome guy.”Alvarez, in response, revealed that there were no hard feelings.

“I’m sorry, just found it hilarious. My bad. Not harm done. Thanks again for such great work moderating my favorite subreddit.”

It’s nice that everyone seems to be getting along even though Alvarez got banned for literally being himself. Then again, it’s easy to imagine bad actors trying to gain some Reddit clout by pretending to be director of a hit movie. It all worked itself out and made for a humorous story, in the end. What comes next for the filmmaker is a bit unclear but Alvarez did have a pretty cool pitch for a new Alien vs. Predator Movie. Fingers crossed on that one. In the meantime, he can at least interact with fans on Reddit freely.

As of this writing, Romulus has made nearly $120 million at the box office after topping the charts globally on opening weekend. In the film, “While scavenging the deep ends of a derelict space station, a group of young space colonizers come face to face with the most terrifying life form in the universe.” The cast includes Cailee Spaeny (Civil War), David Jonsson (Murder is Easy), Archie Renaux (Shadow and Bone), Isabela Merced (The Last of Us), Spike Fearn (Aftersun) and Aileen Wu.
