Amber Midthunder, star of 2o22's Prey, has officially joined Legendary's MonsterVerse, with a starring role in Apple TV+'s upcoming second season of Monarch: Legacy of Monsters.
Variety, who reported the news exclusively earlier today, reveal that Midthunder will star as Isabel, described as “an intelligent and powerful businesswoman.”
She'll join a cast that includes Kurt Russell, Wyatt Russell, Anna Sawai, Kiersey Clemons, Ren Watabe, Mari Yamamoto, Anders Holm, John Goodman, Joe Tippett, and Elisa Lasowski.
If you're not caught up on the Monach: Legacy of Monsters hype, well, first of all, where have you been, and secondly, the series was created by Chris Black and Matt Fraction, and followed on directly from Gareth Edwards' 2014 Godzilla:
Following the thunderous battle between Godzilla and the Titans that leveled San Francisco and the shocking revelation that monsters are real, Monarch: Legacy of Monsters tracks two siblings following in their father’s footsteps to uncover their family’s connection to the secretive organization known as Monarch. Clues lead them into the world of monsters and ultimately down the rabbit hole to Army officer Lee Shaw (played by Kurt Russell and Wyatt Russell), taking place in the 1950s and half a century later where Monarch is threatened by what Shaw knows. The dramatic saga – spanning three generations – reveals buried secrets and the ways that epic, earth-shattering events can reverberate through our lives.
Midthunder wowed horror fans back in 2022 with her starring role in Dan Trachtenberg's Prey, where she played Comanche hunter Naru, and kicked the Predator's butt. The Emmy-nominated Prey has been widely regarded as one of the best entries in the Predator series, and gathered a huge fanbase despite being released straight to Hulu.
A direct Prey sequel is said to be in development, while Badlands, another standalone feature in the Predator universe starring Elle Fanning, is set to be directed by Trachtenberg.
We'll bring you further updates on Monarch: Legacy of Monsters season two as they roll in.
