Scott Derrickson's The Black Phone 2 has called up another victim, with Deadline reporting today that Anna Lore (They/Them, Hysteria!, the upcoming Final Destination: Bloodlines) has joined the Blumhouse sequel ahead of its October 17 release date.
Lore joins returning stars Ethan Hawke (who will be returning to his role as The Grabber in a Freddy Krueger-like capacity), Mason Thames, Madeleine McGraw, Jeremy Davies and Miguel Mora, with new cast additions Demián Bichir and Arianna Rivas.
C. Robert Cargill wrote the script for the sequel, with Joe Hill, author of the original short story The Black Phone is based on, executive producing. Jason Blum, Universal and Crooked Highway Production also producing.
Although Hill's The Black Phone short is a one-and-done, Hill himself pitched Derrickson “a wonderful idea” for the sequel, with Cargill confirming on Bluesky that he in fact refused to make a sequel to The Black Phone until he heard Hill's pitch.
