Ari Aster's upcoming third feature Eddington is eyeing a summer release via A24, Variety reports today, with the “electric thriller” heading to the European Film Market in Berlin this month and a Cannes debut potentially to follow.
Starring Joaquin Phoenix who will play the sheriff of the titular town, Emma Stone, Austin Butler and Pedro Pascal, Eddington reportedly follows:
[…] a couple stranded in a small New Mexico town. Though they are initially welcomed, the town takes a sinister turn by nightfall. Phoenix portrays the town’s sheriff with ambitious dreams.
Deirdre O’Connell, Micheal Ward and Clifton Collins Jr. also star.
Aster produced Eddington alongside Lars Knudsen under their Square Peg banner. Production kicked off in March 2024.
To be clear, there's no indication that Eddington is a pure cut-and-dry horror movie like Hereditary and Midsommar were (incase you're wondering why we're covering the film here at FANGORIA), but with an anxiety auteur like Aster, you never know. After all, his last feature, 2023's Beau is Afraid, was billed as a nightmare comedy and ended up being pretty damn terrifying to anyone with even a sniff of mommy issues.
Keep an eye out for more updates on Eddington as we get them.
