Ari Aster’s EDDINGTON Unleashes Another Anxiety-Inducing Trailer

Joaquin Phoenix and Pedro Pascal star in the pandemic Western.

Ari Aster's genre-bending pandemic Western Eddington gets its first full trailer today ahead of a July 18 theatrical release from A24.

The fourth feature from the Hereditary and Midsommar director, Eddington, which had its World Premiere at Cannes earlier this year, stars Joaquin Phoenix, Pedro Pascal, Emma Stone and Austin Butler, and follows a standoff between a small-town sheriff (Phoenix) and a mayor (Pascal) during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Also starring in Eddington are Deirdre O’Connell, Micheal Ward, Clifton Collins Jr. and Luke Grimes.

While Eddington doesn't seem to have the supernatural scares of Hereditary or the horrifying Hårga cult of Midsommar, Aster still looks to be leaning somewhat into the horror genre, this time by focusing on very real-life terrors such as the pandemic and police brutality. Remember, Beau is Afraid wasn't billed as an outright horror either, and that was damn terrifying.
