Wolfs breakout star Austin Abrams will lead Brian Duffield and 20th Century's upcoming Whalefall adaptation, Deadline reports today.
Based on Daniel Kraus' novel of the same name, Whalefall is described as “The Martian meets 127 Hours”, and centers on:
…a scuba diver in search of his deceased father’s remains who gets swallowed by an 80-foot, 60-ton sperm whale and has only one hour to escape before his oxygen runs out. After giving up on life, the young man is surprised to find a reason to live in the most dangerous and unlikely of places.
Duffield will co-write the Whalefall script with Kraus.
Imagine Entertainment’s Brian Grazer, Jeb Brody and Allan Mandelbaum are producing, with Duffield (No One Will Save You) also producing. 20th Century took Whalefall rights after a “competitive” bidding war.
Released in 2023, Kraus' Whalefall received critical acclaim and was included in a list of the “Best Thrillers of 2023” by the New York Times.
Abrams, who also starred in Euphoria and Scary Stories To Tell in the Dark, will also be seen in Weapons, the mysterious upcoming horror feature from Barbarian‘s Zach Cregger.
Whalefall does not currently have a release date, but stay tuned for more updates as we get them.
